San Diego Family Photographer | Cactus Garden Family Session

As a San Diego family photographer I love to see families grow. Documenting newborns through toddler and to seeing them growing while capturing those moments is always exciting! At one point, I’m basically a part of the family. The Berardi Family contacts me each year to update their family photographs. It’s always a pleasure to see how their children are growing. As a San Diego family photographer, I love to help their family find their authenticity while also producing images they can display around their home.  

For this session, we headed over to The Old Cactus Garden in Balboa Park; where this sweet couple and their energetic kids ran around the paths and played with one another. Each family member wore black, white, and soft pastels that complimented the sage green and soft sand neutral backdrop. Selecting a new location for each year’s photos allows them to showcase their beautiful family up against some of the most stunning backdrops that San Diego has to offer.

Families are one of my favorite subjects to capture as a San Diego family photographer. But, as a mother myself, I understand how difficult it can be to keep your children still for the annual family photo. This is why I use a more relaxed approach and let your family interact organically. I may also use my mom tactics from time to time to help your children feel more comfortable and at ease in front of the camera.

Rather than forced and staged photos, I encourage the families I work with to be authentic and natural. Frolic, laugh, and play with the assurance that this San Diego family photographer is ready to pivot and adapt to anything the session throws my way. And of course we can’t forget about the more conventional shots. For the more conventional shots I always help guide your family into poses that don’t seem forced or unnatural.
